Klm Orange Pride
One of KLM’s most recognizable aircraft, Orange Pride, has been grounded for a few weeks. The aircraft diverted to Beijing Capital Airport due to a technical issue with one of the engines on New Year’s Eve. The aircraft was on its way from Shanghai to Amsterdam with a full load of cargo.

Over one month later, the broken engine has been replaced by local engineers, however, the aircraft is still not able to fly back to its home base in The Netherlands. Due to strict regulations set by the Chinese Government to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, employees of the Dutch airline, including cockpit crew are not allowed to enter the country to bring the grounded plane back to Amsterdam. Currently, the carrier doesn’t know when it will be able to go to Beijing and retrieve its plane.
The KLM Orange Pride is a Boeing 777-300ER with the registration PH-BVA. The airframe was painted into its recognizable livery for the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Netherlands is well-known for its orange colour, so the airline decided to paint the front of the aircraft in the well-known orange colour. Halfway down the fuselage, the orange changes into the signature KLM shade of blue.

Orange Pride is not the only KLM airframe painted in a special livery. A Boeing 737-900ER and Boeing 777-300ER have been painted in the Skyteam livery while subsidiary KLM Cityhopper has also painted one Embraer E190 in the livery of the alliance. In addition, several Boeing 777-200ERs and two Boeing 777-300ERs have been painted in the KLM Asia livery.
